Shubhashree is the product of the Bandhakala process — the Bandha double ikat technique practised by Bhulia weavers of Odisha. When weaving begins, the fish, jhoti, shankha, and flower forms emerge simultaneously on both axes, aligned to within a thread's width. This is what makes each GI certified Sambalpuri saree irreplaceable — the motif cannot be printed or replicated by machine. Cotton versions spend 10 to 15 days on the loom.
