This Sambalpuri Mercerized Cotton saree in deep green carries the quiet authority of a colour rarely seen in double ikat work. Striped buta motifs run across the entire body, anchored at the base by a large yellow flower, while a multicoloured striped border draws a clean, deliberate line on each edge.

The Craft Behind This Saree

Every thread in this handloom Sambalpuri saree is resist-dyed before it meets the loom — a process called Bandhakala, or double ikat, where both warp and weft are tied and dyed individually so the pattern emerges only when the two sets of threads interlace during weaving. Practised by Bhulia weavers across Odisha for generations, this ikat saree Odisha tradition demands 14 to 30 days of concentrated loom time per saree. No two pieces are identical.

Wearing This Saree

Mercerized cotton has a faint, earned sheen — cooler than silk, lighter than chanderi, and more structured than standard cotton. This Sambalpuri cotton saree drapes with minimal fuss and holds its pleats through long hours. The deep green ground with its striped buta pattern reads as composed rather than ornate, making it well-suited to office formals, festival gatherings, and cultural events where an authentic handloom saree speaks without effort. This traditional ikat saree rewards a wearer who notices the detail first.

Woven under the GI Tag: Sambalpuri Handloom and certified by the Government of India Handloom Mark, each Pasapali saree carries the record of its making.
