Shvetra is an original Sambalpuri cotton saree woven in mercerized cotton, part of the authentic Sambalpuri handloom tradition, presenting a warm orange ground with blue accents, a Rudraksha-motif border, flower-motif pallu, and a body rendered in precise ikat patterning.

The Craft Behind Shvetra

Shvetra is made using the Bandha double ikat technique — a process known in Odisha as Bandhakala. Before the loom is set, warp and weft threads are separately bound and resist-dyed so that motifs form simultaneously from both directions once weaving begins. This demands exact alignment at every pass of the shuttle. The Bhulia weavers of Odisha, the hereditary community behind this GI certified Sambalpuri saree, spend 10 to 15 days on the loom for a single cotton piece. The result is a pattern that cannot be printed or replicated by machine — each motif is an outcome of the weave itself, not of surface decoration.

Wearing Shvetra

Mercerized cotton carries a quiet sheen that does not weigh down the drape. Shvetra falls with a controlled ease — firm enough to hold a crisp pleat, light enough for hours of wear. The Rudraksha border traces the hem with a motif that carries meaning in Odishan devotional tradition, making this a considered choice as a Sambalpuri saree for puja. The orange ground and the flower pallu give it the colour presence suited to a Sambalpuri saree for wedding gatherings without relying on embellishment. The breathable weave structure also makes Shvetra a practical Sambalpuri cotton saree for office, where comfort across a full working day matters as much as appearance.

Shvetra is part of the Pasapali handloom Sambalpuri cotton saree collection, certified under the Government of India Handloom Mark.
