Pasarekha is an original Sambalpuri cotton saree woven in mercerized cotton, presenting a composed grey and black palette that draws the eye through its handloom Sambalpuri saree check body, Rudraksha-bordered edges, and flower-motif pallu. The grey ground holds depth without distraction, making each motif legible and deliberate across every yard of the 5.40-metre length.

The Craft Behind Pasarekha

Pasarekha is the result of the Bandhakala process — a resist-dyeing method in which both warp and weft threads are individually tied and dyed before a single pass of the shuttle begins. This is the Bandha double ikat technique: colour is locked into the thread itself, so when the Bhulia weavers of Odisha sit at the loom, the motifs emerge simultaneously from both directions with precise alignment. On mercerized cotton at 120 warp and 120 weft thread count, this alignment demands ten to fifteen days of focused work. The result is a GI certified Sambalpuri saree that carries the Government of India Handloom Mark — confirmation that the cloth was made entirely by hand, within the registered tradition of authentic Sambalpuri handloom.

Wearing Pasarekha

Mercerized cotton carries a quiet sheen without the weight of silk, and Pasarekha moves accordingly — structured enough to hold a clean pleat, light enough for hours of wear. The 43-inch breadth allows a full drape with room to tuck and arrange without strain. As a Sambalpuri saree for wedding functions, the Rudraksha border reads as considered and grounded rather than loud. As a Sambalpuri saree for puja, the grey-black tones and traditional motifs sit within the occasion without demanding attention. As a Sambalpuri cotton saree for office, the check body keeps the silhouette clean and professional across a full working day. The flower motifs on the pallu rest at the shoulder with the same precision woven into every thread.

Pasarekha is part of Pasapali's commitment to the ikat saree Odisha tradition — sourced directly from Bhulia weaver families and documented with care.
