The Shri(Goddess Lakshmi inspired) is an original Sambalpuri cotton saree and a fine example of authentic Sambalpuri handloom craft — woven in deep maroon mercerized cotton with sacred Lakshmi motifs, auspicious body symbols, and a structured vintage border that carries the weight of Odishan weaving tradition.

The Craft Behind Shri(Goddess Lakshmi inspired)

This saree is made using the Bandha (double ikat) technique — the Bandhakala process — where both warp and weft threads are individually resist-dyed and precisely tied before a single pass of weaving begins. Motifs such as the Lakshmi Pado, Laxmi Yantra, Kalash, and Lotus are not printed or embroidered; they emerge simultaneously across both thread directions as the loom brings the pre-dyed yarn into alignment. Woven by Bhulia weavers of Odisha, each piece spends 10 to 15 days on the loom. The result is a GI certified Sambalpuri saree bearing the Government of India Handloom Mark — a record of craft, not decoration.

Wearing Shri(Goddess Lakshmi inspired)

Mercerized cotton at a 120-warp by 120-weft thread count drapes with a quiet firmness — structured enough to hold pleats cleanly yet light enough to move with the body across long hours. The maroon ground deepens in natural light, allowing the Bandha motifs of duck, fish, elephant, and shankh to surface across the body with clarity. This is a Sambalpuri saree for puja that carries genuine ceremonial meaning, a Sambalpuri saree for wedding occasions where the motifs speak before introductions are made, and a Sambalpuri cotton saree for office wear that holds its form from morning through afternoon without effort. The Lakshmi-inspired pallu is positioned to rest visibly at the shoulder — a considered detail for the wearer who understands what these symbols mean.

Pasapali offers this handloom Sambalpuri saree as part of its ongoing documentation of living Odishan craft from Bhulia weaving communities.
